OK, one more experiment:

I installed libssl-dev to my debian box. There are 2 interesting files: /usr/share/doc/libssl-dev/demos/sign/cert.pem /usr/share/doc/libssl-dev/demos/sign/key.pem

I 'cat' them together and used this file as the server and the key file: same result!

SSL alert (read): fatal: bad certificate SSL_connect: 14094412: error:14094412:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert bad certificate

Why?
