stunnel user group, Thanks Yucong Sun or your help. I have changed the configuration file values to the values that you recommended. I didn't read the documentation careful enough. [https] accept = 3600 connect = partnerlogin.advancedmd.com <https://partnerlogin.advancedmd.com/practicemanager/xmlrpc/processrequest.a sp> :443 (stopped and started the windows service to get the new configuration) HOWEVER I'm still not getting stunnel to provide the interface to the https web server. I have a http client software which I have tried both GET and POST calls to https://localhost:3600/practicemanager/xmlrpc/processrequest.asp <blocked::https://localhost:3600/practicemanager/xmlrpc/processrequest.asp> Every time the interface comes back with the error "The Connection to the Server was Reset while the Page was Loading" So I decided to try the page using a standard web browser (Firefox and IE) thinking that my client software may have a problem. I opened the browser and entered the address https://localhost:3600/practicemanager/xmlrpc/processrequest.asp <blocked::https://localhost:3600/practicemanager/xmlrpc/processrequest.asp> Got the same results. So I changed the configuration to go to the same web site as gmail with the following configuration. [https] accept = 3600 connect = mail.google.com:443 When I try to open the page with the browser to address https://localhost:3600/mail/?hl=en <blocked::https://localhost:3600/mail/?hl=en&shva=1#inbox> &shva=1#inbox, I get the same error message. NEXT I started WIRESHARK on the network and filtered for packets coming from/to my host computer. When I enter https://localhost:3600/mail/?hl=en <blocked::https://localhost:3600/mail/?hl=en&shva=1#inbox> &shva=1#inbox on the browser. The following details were captured by WIRESHARK. I'm trying to find a simple configuration to prove out that the basic stunnel application is working. Any suggestions? Is there something basic that I'm missing? If I send a GET request, I should get a response from the https server that CONNECT is configurred for. Is there a compatibility issue between OpenSSL and https web server? problem running on Mac OS X

Hi there. I've built stunnel on the Mac (including the patch for str.c) and have problem when I run it. Whenever it gets a request on one side (from a browser), I see the following in the log. stunnel user group, I'm trying to use stunnel to connect to a secure web server to do an XML interface, but I'm having no luck. What am I missing? Hi, Is it possible to run STunnel on my server to lisen to IP1 on port 443 And to have IIS listen to IP2 on port 443? Should I make changes in the config file? This version also provides new security defaults, updated to better match current best practices in cryptographic applications. The ChangeLog entry: Version 4.37, 2011.06.17, urgency: MEDIUM: * New features - Client-side SNI implemented (RFC 3546 section 3.1). - Default "ciphers" changed from the OpenSSL default to a more secure and faster "RC4-MD5:HIGH:!aNULL:!SSLv2". This suspiciously sounds like http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=626856, and according to the changelog there is already a fix in the unreleased 4.37 version for this. - Could this in fact be the same bug? - Is the patch available somewhere? Login log-level when verify=3

Hi everyone, I'm happily using stunnel for almost 8 years now :) I recently began to use verify=3 and i'm quite disappointed that a succesful access does not appear in the logs unless they are set to quite verbose. To be precise, i think it makes sense, for paranoid setups to keep track of successful accesses to. I'd suggest logging remote end's DN for log level =3 or 4. As there were some improvements lately in verify=3, i hope you could integrate this too. Thanks

Whenever I connect to "http://localhost:20010" I get the proper https repsonse from server "https://sslwebsite.xxxx.com". But the moment I add, "https://localhost:20010/someprogrampath", I get "404 File Not found error". But if I access, " https://sslwebsite.xxxx.com/someprogrampath" directly it WORKS. Any ideas? stunnel via xinetd and rsync problem

Hi, I am having problems getting stunnel to tunnel rsync connections when stunnel is called from xinetd. I can get it to work fine when stunnel is run as a daemon, but when I try rsyncing from the client via xinetd, rsync complains: [root@lambeth ~]# rsync -av --port 2873 192.168.10.130::sanbackup . rsync: server sent "2011.06.06 06:13:56 LOG7[18335:3086816976]: Snagged 64 random bytes from /dev/urandom" rather than greeting rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1296) [receiver=2.6.8] [root@lambeth ~]# It appears that rsync on the client is getting the output of /dev/urandom, and the connection is abandoned. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? stunnel.conf (client): client = yes pid = /var/run/stunnel.pid connect = 192.168.10.240:2873 debug = 7 output = /var/log/stunnel.log accept = 2873 cert = /etc/stunnel/lambeth.pem xinetd config on client for rsync [ssync] service ssync { disable = no port = 2873 socket_type = stream wait = no user = root server = /usr/sbin/stunnel server_args = /etc/stunnel/stunnel-rsync-client.conf log_on_success += USERID log_on_failure += USERID } Any help welcomed! Hello, I am currently using your older product, SSLPROXY 1.1.2, and it is working fine, but I was looking to move to your STUNNEL 4.36. I cannot get the product to work, but that is probably because I have got the 'stunnel.conf' set up improperly. Is it at all possible to send me what the config file should look like if I supplied you with the parameters that I am using successfully with your older product. Current parameters on first session: sslproxy -L192.168.1.1 -l1024 -R192.168.1.2 -r24 -s -c quadCert.pem Current parameters on second session: sslproxy -L192.168.1.1 -l1024 -R192.168.0.2 -r23 -s -c quadCert.pem I would appreciate any help you can give me, and thank you for your time in this matter. Slow connection to remote stunnel

Hi, I'm using stunnel 4.36 on Linux to secure Samba SWAT. When I connect directly to the remot stunnel port with my browser on Windows 7 (https://swat-server:stunnel-port), I get a long delay after entering my credentials (about 60 seconds or so). This seems to be known issue (for instance see "You will be prompted for the Linux root user username and password. There will be a delay of about 60 to 75 seconds with each login."[1].) I did a Wireshark trace and it seems that the server simply does not respond during that time. But when I connect to the local stunnel client (http://localhost:stunnel-port), the SWAT page displays immediately. Is that "normal". How can I get the same speed without a stunnel client? stunnel cannot exec SWAT

Hi, I'm successfully securing Samba SWAT on Linux with stunnel 4.36. The connection goes like this: browser -> http://localhost:901 (stunnel) -> remote:50901 (xinetd) -> stunnel -> remote:901 (xinetd) -> SWAT. Now I want to remove the xinetd swat file and have stunnel directly call swat: browser -> http://localhost:901 (stunnel) -> remote:50901 (xinetd) -> stunnel -> SWAT I do this by commenting out "connect" and setting exec and execargs (as documented in stunnel's man page): #connect = 901 exec = /usr/sbin/swat execargs = swat Now I get a "Connection closed by remote server" in my browser. Hello, During make, I suddenly got this, from the stunnel-4.36 tarball: > str.c:83: error: thread-local storage not supported for this target while it was compiling src/str.c . I'm running MacOSX 10.6.7 with Xcode-3.2.6. I always compile for i386 32-bit mode. (The kernel must be in 32-bit mode for this model iMac, even though most tasks will run in 64-bit mode.) The stunnel-4.34 was built and is (still) running fine here. (I must've skipped -4.35 for some reason.) The src/str.c does seem to be a new module in 4.36, however. I configure stunnel this way: $ ./configure \ --enable-dependency-tracking \ --enable-static \ --enable-shared \ --with-ssl=/usr/local/ssl (same configure with 4.34 & 4.36) The configure step found most things, including libwrap etc. They're using the same compiler and other flags etc.: $ $CC --version i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3) […] (I never use a pkg-mgr such as Macports or Fink; besides, they are both now back-level with stunnel.) I'm skeptical in upgrading Xcode to their 4.x series, with Apple's insistence we use the LLVM family there. ;) I'm just a hobbyist, using stunnel to connect Pan to NNTP servers thru their SSL services (including sending this message via Gmane). I am happy with 4.34 in this regard. If it's not too much trouble, though, could someone help further with this problem in 4.36, please? Thank you.

stunnel4 with exec as service for securing pop3

I would like to run the stunnel4 daemon in order to provide a pop3s service by using a pop server (solid-pop3d). The following configuration file doesn't work (the pop3 server doesn't start, I think) and I would like to ask for any hints. --stunnel.conf>>> cert = /etc/stunnel/stunnel4.pem sslVersion = SSLv3 [pop3s] accept = 995 exec = /usr/sbin/solid-pop3d execargs = solid-pop3d <<<stunnel.conf-- I would expect stunnel4 to start up solid-pop3d every time someone connects to port 995 and communicate to solid-pop3d, just like inetd would do, if configured to serve solid-pop3d. stunnel 4.36 compilation problems with Sun Studio compiler

There are several minor problems using the Sun Studion 12 compiler (on Solaris 10 SPARC)... - in str.c, use of STR causes errors because /usr/include/sys/stropts.h contains: #define STR ('S'<<8) The this just requires replacing "STR" with something safer, such as "XSTR". - things fail horribly because SIZEOF_UNSIGNED_CHAR and friends get defined to 0. AFAICT, this happens because configure erroneously decides that cc suports -pendantic (which it appears to, but which causes linking to fail with the symbol "mcount" undefined). stunnel high load and lower network I/O yields

Folks, We are finding a bottleneck with stunnel for video intensive apps where it will run with weighted CPU near 120% and network interface will yield 30.3Mb, whereas without stunnel the rates will top off near 53.1Mb during the 10 second intervals as reported by iftop. The peaks are higher, but this is not sustained for either case. In order to improve stunnel's performance, is it possible to use a less intensive compute processing encryption, or fork the stunnel per connection? Thanks
